New Mexico Fencing Foundation Beginner's Guide


Beginner Classes cover the basics in tactics and technique for Modern Olympic Fencing. You will learn basic footwork (advance, retreat, lunge) as well as simple bladework (beats, parries, disengages, second intentions) and general tactics for sport fencing. Tactics include timing, tactical progressions, the basic psychological game, and ultimately, how to mentally beat the opponent.

 

Two-month sessions are as follows:


September-October

November-December

January-February

March-April

May-June

July-August



Classes Offered Next Session:

New Times and Classes Begin in September

-Class refers to instructor led class

-Bouting refers to open floor for practice and fencing


Junior/Youth (9-14) Competitive Epee

Monday/Thursday - 4:30-5:30

Begins September 9th

 


Adult Fencing Basics (Epee)

Tuesdays - 5:30-6:30

Begins September 7th


Youth Beginner (ages 8-14)

Tuesdays - 4:30-5:30

Begins September 7th


Home School Beginners/Novice Foil (ages 7-12)

Tuesdays - 12:00-1:00pm

Begins September 7th  


Musketeers (ages 6-8)

Wednesdays - 4:30-5:30

Begins September 8th

 

Women's Epee

Thursdays - 12:00-1:00

Begins September 9th



Cost: $180 per 2-month session

 

Most beginners start at the beginning of a 2-month session. If you would like to being any other time during the season, then you will be required to take one private lesson ($70 for a 60 minute lesson) to begin.


Equipment: Jacket, Mask and Glove is provided for the first session, then you may rent a package for $20 each session or purchase your own ($125 approx.).
